This device comprises at least one recuperator (2) of the heat energy of the flue gases of a furnace, particularly a metallurgical slab reheating furnace, this recuperator being provided with pipes carrying the combustion air that is to be heated before passing to the burners of said furnace, said pipes being supplied with cold air through at least one duct (6), the device being characterised in that it comprises means (12a, 12b) for the preheating of the cold combustion air before it is admitted into the pipes of said recuperator (2). The preheating means raise the minimal temperature reached by the external walls of the pipes and thus prevent any risk of sulphuric acid condensing upon them, which would corrode them. <IMAGE>
