The subject of the invention is novel items of jewellery and methods for manufacturing these. An item of jewellery according to the invention, for example a pen or a cigarette lighter, comprises a rigid cylindrical body (10 which is encased in a tubular braiding (2) composed of interlaced strips or wires of precious or stainless metal. The braiding (2) is manufactured separately. It is then slipped over the rigid body (1), then stretched longitudinally and welded at the two ends of the body (1), and the welds are covered over by two rings (5).
