Device for separating liquids of different density, such as petroleum and water, consisting of an element for picking up by means of suction 1 and pumping 2 of the liquid mixture whose components it is desired to separate and which is conveyed by means of flexible tubes 3 to a container 4 for settling of the liquid of greater density which is collected separately from the other, lighter one in their respective containers 6 and 7. The process may be run dynamically by mounting the equipment on a vessel 8 which moves over the mixture to be picked up in order to treat the latter. Statically, it will consist in providing the mixture to be treated to the equipment without the latter moving over the mixture. Its use is recommended for the elimination of surface films of any hydrocarbon derivative which are found on maritime shore waters such as ports or, alternatively, for the elimination of black tides (oil spills). <IMAGE>
