PURPOSE:To prevent the reduction of the cycle life and realize a high discharge capacity by using a hydrogen storage electrode molded with a mixture of hydrogen storage alloy powder and cobalt powder without baking as a negative electrode for charging/discharging. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen storage alloy powder and cobalt powder are mechanically mixed to mold a hydrogen storage electrode directly without baking to form the negative electrode of a battery, when this battery is charged/ discharged, a porous film formed with cobalt fine grains is deposited on the surface of the hydrogen storage alloy powder by the action of the electric field and an electrolyte. The porous cobalt film prevents the decay of the hydrogen storage alloy powder and decreases the electric resistance between the hydrogen storage alloy powder, thus the reduction of the cycle life is prevented, and the discharge capacity can be improved. The hydrogen storage alloy powder preferably contains no cobalt component before it is mixed with the cobalt powder. |
