An optical multipurpose coupling, comprises a central fibre (3) and outer fibres (4) parallelly surrounding it which are inserted into a capillary tube (9). The cladding (31) of all the fibres (3, 4) is completely or partially removed for a length (20) of the coupling. The fibres thus reduced in diameter are surrounded by the capilliary tube and the capilliary tube extends beyond the length of the reduced fibres so that parts of the fibres with cladding extend into the capilliary tube. USE/ADVANTAGE - Small damping loss when coupling a number of light fibres. Enables simplified manufacture and optimal coupling.
