Miniaturised passive infra-red movement detector. Passive infra-red movement detectors are primarily used in intruder alarm installations. In order to obtain a wide range of coverage, these devices make use of Fresnel lens arrangements or mirror optics which substantially determine their size and hamper miniaturisation. The novel device is designed to be substantially smaller than prior-art passive infra-red movement detectors despite having a wide range of coverage. A detector (1) constructed as a multi-element sensor in the form of one or more lines is arranged behind a convergent lens (2). Thus the coverage (4) in front of the convergent lens can be divided into several small fields of view (4.1 to 4.8) of high sensitivity in a substantially smaller format.
