PURPOSE:To enable automatic focusing operation to be performed accurately and quickly, even when an automatic focusing area is set in a surrounding area in the automatic focusing of wide field, by providing a lens drive means for moving a lens to a position for a distance measurement beam to be free from interference, upon receipt of a focal point enable signal from a judgement means. CONSTITUTION:When focal point detection operation is possible after distance measurement operation, a lens CPU (LCPU) 18 drives a photographing optical system 11 via a processing circuit 16 and a photographing optical circuit 15 on the basis of output from a photoelectric transfer element 14. On the other hand, when the focal point detection operation is impossible, the LCPU 18 causes the photographing optical system 11 to move to a position for a beam therefrom to be free from interference with a field mask 12, on the basis of output from an automatic focusing area setting device 17, and again causes the device 17 to perform distance measurement operation. According to this construction, accurate and quick focusing operation can be ensured, even when a focusing area is set in a surrounding area in the automatic focusing of wide field. |
