A laminated body 4, e.g. for a ceramic capacitor, has registration marks 23 a-f visible on each side surface to assist in cutting the body at a desired position, e.g. relative to electrodes provided on each lamination, the group of marks being optically detected and its overall vertical centre line being calculated by: imaging 12 the side surface; binary-coding 13 and storing 14 the image information based on colour density; selecting 15 signal regions having more than a predetermined colour density; rejecting regions 24 having loss than a predetermined area and region 22a, b longer than a predetermined length; detecting the group 23a-f on the basis of the proximity of the marks to one another and their total area; and determining 16 the centre line of the group on the basis of the most extreme left and right ends. <IMAGE> |
