PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for synthesis of carbapenem antibiotics by reacting a (2S,3R)-2-aminomethyl-3-hydroxybutyric acid with a sulfenamide and triphenylphosphine. CONSTITUTION:With (2S,3R)-2-aminomethyl-3-hydroxybutyric acid of formula I (R<1> is H or OH-protecting group) or its derivative, a sulfenamidie of formula II (R<2> is group of formula III, IV, etc.; R<3> and R<4> are hydrocarbon, H or heterocycle) and triphenylphosphine as reactive agents are reacted in a solvent such as acetonitrile at room temperature-reflux temperature for 1-24hr, thus obtaining the objective compound of formula V. The amount of the sulfenamide used is 1.0-1.3mol based on 1mol compound of formula I and triphenylphosphine almost equimolar to the sulfenamide is used. |
