A process is disclosed for the production of 4substituted 2,6-dialkylanilines of the formula: (I) wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and are straight-chain or branched (C1-C4)-lower alkyl groups, and R3 is a phenylisopropyl group, a 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl group or a tert-butyl group. 2,6-Dialkylaniline is reacted with .alpha.-methylstyrene, or diisobutylene, or isobutene in the presence of a catalyst to form the desired end product.
