A telescopic tube comprises cylinders 10, 12 fixed in relationship to each other and a third cylinder 13 disposed therebetween and slidable in a sealed manner through an aperture at the end 11 of the tube 10, the cylinder 13 having a piston 43 slidable in a sealed manner between the first two cylinders, an orifice 16 being provided in the wall of cylinder 13, the crosssectional area S of the cylinder 13 being made equal to the sum of the cross-sectional areas of the annuli 47, 48. As the tube is extended telescopically the volume of fluid therein does not change. A crenellated flange 17 on the cylinder 13 limits the extension of the tube. The ends of cylinders 10 and 12 are provided with a universal joint comprising three rotating joints; the space 62 is open to atmosphere through passage 25. The external end of cylinder 13 is provided with a somewhat similar universal joint.</p> |
