An appliance for cutting certain fruits, vegetables and other similar products into slices, of the type including a tilting lever (2) carrying a frame with longitudinal cutting blades or wires (3) and a cradle (9) which is slit longitudinally for the passage of the wires or blades (3) for supporting the product to be sliced. The cradle (9) for supporting the product is mounted so that it can slide on the baseplate (1) of the appliance and is provided with lateral sole plates (8) with lower studs engaged in longitudinal slideways (10) in the plate (1) and includes at least one entrainment rack (13) engaged with a toothed sector (14) secured to the end of the lever (2) located on the axis of pivoting of the latter, this rack/toothed sector assembly being mounted such that when the lever (2) is raised, the cradle (9) is moved longitudinally away from the axis of pivoting of the latter and, when this lever (2) is being lowered for the operation of cutting the product, the cradle (9) is moved longitudinally towards this axis of pivoting until it comes close to the latter and is enclosed in the frame with longitudinal blades (3) when the lever (2) is completely lowered at the end of cutting of the product. <IMAGE>
