The invention relates to a device (4) for obturating an opening, in particular an inspection opening, formed in a cylindrical wall (2), this obturating device comprising: - a thick cover (8) having at least one fluid-tight bearing surface (9) bearing on a seat (10), - a solid part (11) in which is formed the opening (3) and whose thickness is very much greater than that of the wall (2) of the tank, this part (11), on the one hand, being connected to the edge (13) of a cut-out (14) provided in the wall (2) of the tank and, on the other hand, having a surface which is arranged around the opening (3) in such a way as to constitute the fluid-tight bearing seat of the complementary bearing surface (9) of the cover (8), - at least one means (15) of strongly applying the cover (8) against the seat (10) of the annular part (11), and between the peripheral edge (16) of the annular part (11) and the edge (13) of the cut-out (14) formed in the wall (2) there is interposed a collar (17) whose cross-section is adjusted in order to compensate the above-mentioned difference in thickness. <IMAGE>
