Steel strip 2-25 mm thick is produced from strand of less than 100 mm thickness by concasting in an oscillating mould with cooled walls; pressing together the solidified walls of the strand using rollers while the centre is still molten to weld together the walls; cooling the casting surfaces to 1000-1200 deg.C by spraying; and then roll deforming the cooled rod in a single pass by 5-85%.
