The measurement system for a motor vehicle has a transducer which produces a variable measurement signal characterised by at least one fixed end value represented by a stored value and a control system which controls a control element according to the variable parameter and stored end values. The stored value can be varied in one direction when the measurement signal exceeds it or falls below it for a maximum or minimum value respectively. The stored value can be varied in the opposite direction when the variable parameter reaches a defined value or range near the end value and then exceeds or falls below a defined value near the end value for the minimum or maximum end value respectively. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for measuring position of accelerator pedal to enable control of vehicle engine choke flap or fuel injection pump. Enables more comfortable and reliable operation to be achieved.
