PURPOSE:To prevent unnecessary images from being transferred onto a recording material support member by transferring images after an unnecessary developer attached to an image carrier during potential control or driving of a motor for driving a developing means is passed through a transfer portion. CONSTITUTION:A strip of fogging toner attached on each photoconductor drum by impact caused by the start of driving of a motor for driving a developing machine is scraped by cleaning means 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d. After the strip fogging toner is passed through a transfer portion, all of backup members 60a to 60d are therefore turned on and a recording material support member 8 is forcibly pressed against each photoconductor drum 1a to 1d. Similar operations are carried out even during subsequent rotation of each drum after image formation is completed. Finally, the DC component of developing bias is applied during subsequent electrification of each photoconductor drum and, after the subsequent electrification is completed, electrification and the DC component of the developing bias are turned off in this order. Next the member 8 is cleaned and a motor for driving each photoconductor drum and a motor for driving the recording material support member are stopped whereby image forming action is completed. |
