Pteridine derivs. (I) and salts are new. A = spacer gp.; and R = 1-4C alkyl or opt. substd. aryl. A is pref. arylene or alkylarylene with 6-18C or a 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic gp. contg. at least 2 C and N, O or S atom(s) esp. 1,4-phenylene or a gp. of the formula (II) or (III). Y = O or -(CHR1)n-; R1 = H, 1-4C, OH or di-1-4C alkylamino and n = 0-2. USE/ADVANTAGE - Admin. is pref. parenterally at 0.2-1000 mg/day, and the molar ratio (I):furosemide is e.g. 0.5:1. Higher water solubility than triamterene.
