<p>A workpart chuck centering mechanism moves towards the axis of rotation of the chuck as the chuck rotates in an eccentric non-centered position. The centering mechanism includes two independent shoes (14, 16). Each shoe is driven by a servo-motor and encoder. The two shoes (14, 16) function in a cooperative manner to center the workpart (18). A sensing device (12) monitors any eccentric movement of the workpart (18) and controls the positioning of the shoes (14, 16). The two shoes (14, 16) and the sensing device (12) are mounted on a base (10) which can pivot about the chuck axis. The directions of movement of the respective shoes (14, 16) are displaced 90° relative to one another and intersect at the chuck axis.</p> |
