Optically pure isomers of the following formula (See formula I) wherein * and *' are asymmetric carbon atoms having either the R or S configuration, and R' and alk are alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms which are useful intermediates in the preparation of therapeutically active 7-[3-(1,1- dialkylmethyl-1-amino)-1-pyrrolidinyl]quinolones and naphthyridones.
