A method for mounting electrooptical components (20) on integrated optical waveguides (12) which are provided in a substrate (10) contains the following method steps: (a) applying an etchant to the substrate (10) so that a trench (18) which cuts into a waveguide (12) is etched into the surface of the substrate, (b) positioning and retaining in the trench (18), in the desired position with respect to the waveguide (12), an electrooptical component (20) to be mounted, and (c) casting the component (20) in the trench (18), with a solidifying material having a refractive index adapted to the refractive index of the waveguide.
