The hammer drill has a compressed air striker piston (16) working in a housing (12), and a control sleeve (24) movable axially to reverse the direction of movement of the drill, exposed to the pressure in one (20) of the chambers (18,20) on opposite sides of the piston. Turning the compressed air hose (26) adjusts the sleeve via a spindle drive (30). The sleeve is mounted on a core (20,34) fixed in the axial direction in the housing, and forms an annular pressure face.
