A method for etching fur skins, particularly sheep fur skins, with a multiple use of an enzyme bath, characterised in that fur skins, soaked and washed by a traditional method, are fetched with the use of anti-swelling agents and organic acids and/or mineral proteolytic enzymes in a quantity equivalent to proteolytic activity within a range of 25-9,000 JHb/cm<3> of bath, in an environment of pH 2-4 within up to 50 hours, while simultaneously fresh or spent enzyme baths are standardised by analytically defining the etching bath in terms of enzyme units content in a bath volume unit.
