This device, for producing, on a strip (band), openings, buttonholes, or marks, is of the type implementing a needle loom in which heald frames (8 to 12), actuated by small chains with keys, control the position of the warp threads (3 to 6) forming the shed (7) with respect to the trajectory of the needle (11) for inserting the weft thread. According to the invention, it includes, for each work, on the one hand, an opening heald (13) in the loop (14) of which there runs; the warp thread (3) which is to be moved out of the way temporarily and, on the other hand, a motor means (16) connected to this heald (13) and capable of moving its loop (14) between a high position, out of the way, and a low position in which the warp thread in question is released and subjected to the movements of its working heald, this motor means being under the dependency of an electronic control assembly (18) counting down the pick lengths of weft detected by a sensor (20) with respect to two reference numbers, of adjustable value, corresponding, the first one, to the repetition pitch and, the second one, to the length of the opening, buttonhole, or mark. <IMAGE>
