Liquid crystalline mixture with steep electro-optical properties, containing in its composition liquid crystalline compounds or liquid crystalline compounds with non- liquid crystalline compounds such as dyes, diluents and optically active compounds characterised by the fact that at least one of the components is a pyridine derivative with the general chemical formula 1 where R is a branched or non-branched alkyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, X is -CH2- or -CO- group, ring A is cyclohexyl or bicyclo[2,2,2]octyl, m is a whole number 1, 2 or 0, X' is -COO-, -OCO-, -OCH2-, -CH2O- or -CH2CH2- group, Z' is hydrogen atom or alkyl or alkoxyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms.<IMAGE>
