Bar screen 10 for calibrating wood shavings which includes a certain number of parallel bars 12-12 supported at their respective ends 14, 15 in such a manner and actuated in such a manner that each bar moves either longitudinally or vertically. Two alternate sets of bars 12-12 are included, one of the sets being offset by 180 degree in terms of position relative to the other set. The speed and the movement of the bars 12-12 are such that the wood shavings are tilted upwards, in a vertical orientation, and it provides them with a degree of movement such that the shavings break contact with the bars and encounter a groove between adjacent bars which matches their thickness dimension.
