Engine overhead camshaft lubrication system - contains sleeve with throttle ports supplying passages to bearings

The system lubricates the camshaft bearings in the cylinder head (2) of an IC engine, there being two camshafts (3,4) driven via a mechansim (3,5,6) in the timing case (10) at one end of the cylinder block. A drilling in the latter from the oil pump connects to one in the head, from which passages (16,17) branch off to the respective camshaft bearings. Valves (28,29) are included to limit oil pressure to the latter. A tubular sleeve (23) connects the cylinder-head drilling to the passages, and extends through a hole (24) in the timing case outside wall (25) into a blind hole (15) in the head. Ports (28,29) in the sleeve in line with the passages form throttles. USE/ADVANTAGE - Lubrication system is usable in engines both with and without hydraulic adjustment of camshaft timing.
