The cathode region of a PNPN controlled rectifier comprises a main section 3 which is annular and carries a main current electrode and an auxiliary section 4 which carries the control electrode. A shorting contact 8 is provided on a small part of the inner periphery of the main section 3 so that when a triggering current is passed between the sections 3 and 4 it passes through the contact 8, but the contact 8 is made sufficiently small so as not to impair the operation of the device. The contact 8 may be applied by alloying, or plating, e.g. electroless plating. A shorting contact may also be situated around part of the periphery of the auxiliary cathode section 4. |
