PURPOSE:To facilitate the positioning of a converging lens relative to a semiconductor light-emitting element for an efficient convergence of light by a method wherein a recess of a desired geometry is provided in a block in front of a light-emitting end face of a semiconductor light-emitting element and an optical beam converging lens is installed in the recess. CONSTITUTION:An active layer (light-emitting region) formed into a stripe on an LED chip 3 is provided with an end (light-emitting point 8) at the middle of the lower edge of a light-emitting end face 7. A current is fed into the active layer for the generation of light upon recombination of electrons and holes, and the light is emitted outward at the light-emitting point 8 of the light- emitting end face 7. A light beam 9 goes into a spherical lens 6 installed in front of the light-emitting point 8, is bent in the spherical lens 6, to be emitted outward for the second time. When the positional relationship between the recess 5 for accommodating the spherical lens 6 and the light-emitting end face 7 and the size of the spherical lens 6 are appropriately determined, the beam emitted at the light-emitting point 8 may be converged in the spherical lens 6, to focus at a point in front of the spherical lens 6. |
