Water-insoluble mono-azo dyes of general formula <FORM:1048250/C4-C5/1> in which A and A1 each represent alkylene radicals of 1-6 carbon atoms, B is a hydrogen atom or a cyano, hydroxy or COOR group, R is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or hydroxy lower alkyl group, Z is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group, Y is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a lower alkyl lower alkoxy or -NH acyl radical, wherein acyl is a radical of a carboxylic carbonic or organic carbonic acid, W is a hydrogen atom or a COOR1 group, X is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a nitro group or when W is a hydrogen atom X may also be COOR1 radical and R1 is a lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl, chloro lower alkyl, bromo lower alkyl or lower alkoxy lower alkyl radical. The term "lower" means containing 1-4 carbon atoms. The dyes may be prepared by coupling a diazotized primary amine of Formula II with a coupling component of Formula III <PICT:1048250/C4-C5/1> all symbols being as above. The dyes provide scarlet-navy blue colours and are employed on acetate, polyamide, and polyester materials. |
