A centrifuge with a drive motor, drive shaft and an exchangeable rotor which is provided with an information carrier for machine readable data, with a read device which at least includes a detector for interrogating the information carrier, and with an analyser device for processing the information obtained by the detector, and being novel in that, the information carrier has an at least readable, and within its data storage read write memory, to which the analyser (5) connected write unit (9) is linked for automatic transfer of machine readable data from the analyser unit (5) into the read write memory store. USE/ADVANTAGE - Automatic logging of centrifuge operations to ensure that the safe number of operating cycles for major dynamically stressed components is not exceeded, and to ensure compatibility, distinction, and continuity of monitoring where interchangeable rotors are available for a common drive unit.
