VIDEO HIERARCHICAL ENCODING DEVICE

摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient quality at reproduction of a high resolution signal requesting high quality by dividing an input video signal into a band and applying quantization in multi-stage so as to apply sufficient information compression to a low resolution signal not requiring high quality. CONSTITUTION:Video signals LS, MS of low resolution and medium resolution and band signals MB, HB of medium resolution and high resolution are extracted from an input video signal S1 from a band split section 1. The video signals and the band signals subject to band split are quantized by quantizers 2-1 to 2-3 stepwise from a low frequency. The accuracy of quantization of each stage of the quantizers 2-1 to 2-3 is set finner gradually, high information compression by rough quantization is obtained at the 1st stage and a high quality reproduced picture is finner quantization is obtained toward latter stages.
