A method for synthesizing an aromatic amine, an aromatic alcohol or an aromatic thiol by an aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction is disclosed, which comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) wherein Q1 represents an aromatic ring; EWG represents a group having a positive Hammett's sigma p value; m represents an integer of 1 to 5; n represents an integer of 1 to 3; and X represents a group represented by formula (III): <IMAGE> (III) wherein R4 represents hydrogen atom, an aryl group or an alkyl group; Q2 represents an atomic group for forming an aromatic ring; and Z1 and Z2 each represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom with a nucleophilic reagent represented by formula (II): M-Y(II) wherein M represents a hydrogen atom, a metal atom or an ammonium; Y represents a -NHR1 group, an -OR1 group, or a -SR1 group; R1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a residue of a heterocyclic ring, a -NR2R3 group or an -OR2 group; and R2 and R3 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or a residue of a heterocyclic ring.
