PURPOSE:To relieve the load of an ATM switch section and to attain efficient cross connect by devising the connector such that only one cell is inputted to an ATM switch section for each period and only one multiple address cell is outputted from the switch section corresponding to an outgoing line. CONSTITUTION:On the occurrence of a fault of a transmission line, an ATM switch section 3 references an incoming line number 712 in a switch header 11 of a multiple address OAM cell to be inputted to obtain outgoing number information used to send the OAM cell from a record corresponding to an incoming line number in a transmission line table 9 and copies and sends the cell one by one to each outgoing line. Each output side VPI conversion processing section 4 receiving the cell references a record corresponding in the VPI conversion table 10 based on the multiple address cell from the incoming line signal of a switch header part to set and output an output VPI and number of sent cells thereby relieving the load of the ATM switch section for the efficient execution.
