The sensor consists of a measuring and counter electrode on an oxide ion conductive solid electrolyte. The measuring electrode is covered by a diffusion curbing layer while the counter electrode is open in the gas space. The diffusion checking and ion conducting functions are united in one layer in that the diffusion curbing layer (1) is itself of oxide ion conductive material. The measuring electrode (2) is covered with an oxygen-impervious layer on the side facing the diffusion curbing layer. This oxygen-impervious layer (4) is of the same material as the metallic measuring sensor. This oxygen blocking layer (4) can be of melted glass. USE/ADVANTAGE - I.C. engine exhaust gas, breathing air, heating or firing installation. Long reliable life at high sensitivity. Simplified layer construction.
