<p>The bin is constructed with surrounding wall(s) made of rigid, openwork grill material, and without base or top cover, i.e. open at both ends. Mfr. comprises loading alternate layers of soil and domestic vegetable waste into the bin. With each layer of soil is added a quantity of two or three handfuls of nitrogen fertiliser, e.g. as used for lawns. A further addn is made of about 2 kg of lime per 1m3 of compost. The material in the bin is lightly sprinkled with water and then left to compact for a month or two. The bin is pref. made up of several grills sections which can be easily dismantled and reassembled. Conveniently, the sections can be hinged together. Used as a compost maker for amateur gardeners. The bin is inexpensive and is readily portable. It can be reused repeatedly, as soon as its contents are suitably compacted. Excellent aeration via grill apertures.</p> |
