TWO-DIMENSIONAL POSITION INPUT DEVICE

PURPOSE:To facilitate an operation and to miniaturize a two-dimensional position input device by arranging light-outgoing/entering ends whose areas are small in light transmission bodies near the slit-like pattern of cylindrical bodies and arranging light- receiving/emitting elements at light-outgoing/entering ends on an opposite side. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical bodies 2 which are brought into contact with a ball 1 that freely rotates, which are arranged at a right angle and which axis-rotate and the slit-like pattern 3 formed on the cylindrical body and whose optical reflection rate differ are arranged. The light-outgoing/entering ends whose areas are small in the light transmission bodies 4 which have three optical paths and whose areas of one side of the light-outgoing/entering ends are different from those on the opposite side are arranged near the slit-like pattern 3. The light-receiving/emitting elements are arranged at the light-outgoing/entering ends on the opposite side. The arrangement of the light-receiving/emitting elements corresponds to three optical paths in the light transmission bodies, the parts of both end optical paths are the light-receiving elements 5a, the parts of center optical paths are the light-emitting elements 5b and they are constituted to be parallel to the rotary direction of the cylindrical bodies. Thus, the two-dimensional position input device can be constituted small and an operator can easily execute the input operation in the sense of a pen.
