PURPOSE:To reduce the buffer storage time resulting in reducing transmission/ recording time by calculating the specified buffer amount from the number of compressed data in the unit of blocks and transmitting it to a receiver. CONSTITUTION:A picture input section scans a picture and converts it into picture signals 7 such as a white and black binary, a multi-value or color. A compressing section 2 compresses this picture signal 7 in the unit of blocks and forms a compressed data 8. A count section 6 calculates the specified buffer amount from the number of compressed data in the unit of blocks transmitted sequentially by means of the operation shown in the following. When a transmission request of a picture occurs, first a line output section 4 reads out the specified buffer amount 10 of the transmitted picture, informs this value to the receiver through a readout circuit, and then the compressed data of the transmitted picture is read out from the storage section and outputted continuosly to the line. |
