A mechanical clamping unit is provided for retaining and aligning the laminated core end piece (3) of a transformer. The cores are located between cross members of iron (5). The clamping arrangements are located at either end of the cores and apply a transverse restraint. Each clamping element consists of a threaded bolt (12) located in cross plates (9) on dowel pins (10). A plate (11) is moved against the laminated cores. ADVANTAGE - Simplifies adjustable clamping.
