The rail waggon comprises an enclosed structure with a base (4), a roof (3), opposing sidewalls (1,2) and open ends which can be sealed in an emergency via fire protection roller shutters (6,7,8), used in combination with swing access doors (9,10). Pref. the fire protection roller shutters (6,7,8) are operated via endless horizontal drive chains operated via an electric motor to initiate automatic closure. Pref. a wide central roller shutter (6) is enclosed on each side of a pair of relatively narrow roller shutters (7,8) above respective pairs of swing doors (9,10).
