Humidifying the oxygen supply of a fuel cell comprising a cathode compartment (1) supplied with oxygen-containing gas, an anode compartment (2) supplied with hydrogen-containing gas and a proton exchange membrane (3) separating the compartments comprises periodically reversing the flow of oxygen-containing gas in the cathode compartment. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell comprising a cathode compartment (1) having a channel for circulating oxygen-containing gas (OCG), e.g. air, and having a first inlet/outlet and a second inlet/outlet, and a OCG supply circuit (11) that is connected to the OCG circulation channel in the cathode compartment and can be connected either to an OCG source (9) or to an OCG post-treatment device (10), where the OCG supply circuit is reversible and comprises means for reversing the flow of OCG in the OCG circulation channel in the cathode compartment. |
