The invention relates to an installation for the biological treatment of a liquid, of the type comprising a vessel (1) containing at least one rotary drum (7) adapted for producing the immobilisation of microorganisms which are specific for the treatment to be carried out and means (21, 23) for driving the said drum in rotation. This drum (7) comprises a network made up of a multitude of linear components (11) kept close to each other in approximately parallel directions and adapted for providing the immobilisation of the microorganisms on its outer surface. It is characterised in that it consists of a plurality of frames (8) of equal length which are arranged parallel to each other and are carried at each of their ends by an abutment member (15), the network being made up of a multitude of strings (11) held lengthwise on each of the said frames.
