The electromagnetic drive system for the generation of droplets in an ink jet printer is designed to produce a uniform droplet. The print head has a discharge nozzle (8) coupled to an ink filled channel (3) located in a block and with a top membrane (6). Above the membrane is located a chamber (4) filled with a magnetic fluid. The chamber connects through a narrow channel connecting with a reservoir (7) with a free surface. Located around the narrow channel is an electrical coil (5) that receives the input signal. When the coil is energised an impulse is transmitted to the membrane and a pressure wave is sent through the ink to discharge a droplet.
