Electrochemical process for the preparation of organic trisulphides of general formula R-S-S-S-R (I), in which R is an organic group chosen from those containing - C1-C18 alkyl groups, - C1-C18 alkoxy groups, - C1-C18 dialkylamino groups, - aryl groups in which the aryl nucleus is a phenyl or naphthyl nucleus, - alkylaryl groups in which the alkyl chain is C1-C18 and the aryl nucleus is a phenyl or naphthyl nucleus, and - alkoxyaryl groups in which the alkoxy chain is C1-C18 and the aryl nucleus is a phenyl or naphthyl nucleus, characterised in that a substrate consisting of a thiol of formula R-SH, in which R is as defined above, is brought into contact with an effective quantity of electrophilic Sx<++> cations.
