The apparatus for rowing (1) comprises a longitudinal frame (2) on which is fastened, on each side, a transverse support (3a, 3b) carrying, on the one hand, towards its outer end, a pivoting spindle (8a, 8b) for a rowing lever (9a, 9b), and, on the other hand, means (R) for exerting a resistance to the deflection of each lever, the said frame being equipped, in addition, towards one end, with a seat (14) capable of sliding in the longitudinal direction of the frame, and, towards its other end, with footrests (15-, 15b) which are adjustable in the longitudinal direction of the frame, with respect to the transverse plane (P) passing through the articulation spindles (8a, 8b) of the rowing levers. The seat (14) is mounted slideably on a beam (16) which is itself mounted slideably relative to the frame (2) in the longitudinal direction of this frame, and the footrests (15a, 15b) are fastened on the said beam (16), blocking means (30, 34) being provided to stop the beam (16) relative to the frame (2) in a specific position, the adjustment of the footrests (15a, 15b) relative to the transverse plane (P) of the articulation spindles (8a, 8b) of the rowing levers being obtained by sliding of the said beam and blocking in the desired position. <IMAGE>
