The display cell has a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a relatively large and a relatively small surface area glass plate (1,5), the conductor paths (8) carried by the projecting part (3) of the larger surface area glass plate (1) comprising an indicia tin oxide layer and a vapour deposited nickel layer. A precious metal layer is applied over the nickel layer of at least part of the conductor path pattern carried by the projecting part (3). Preferably, circuit components (9) are applied to the conductor path pattern after application of the precious metal layer. ADVANTAGE - Improved conductivity and resistance characteristics.
