1288420 Anti-theft devices JOSEF VOSS KG 29 Sept 1969 [28 Sept 1968 30 Aug 1969] 47871/69 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] A steering column lock comprises a lock cylinder 2 and a bolt 8 which is withdrawable against spring action into the release position by means of a key actuated cam 5 movable with a barrel of the lock and which, after release, as a result of withdrawal of the lock key moves to a column locking position by spring-biasing in which position it is locked by a member 17 which is released by means of the cam. The bolt 8 comprises an apertured frame 9 and pivoted head which is retained in the withdrawn position by engaging one end of a spring urged member 20, when the key is inserted in the slot, withdrawing the key allows the other end to move into the slot and frees the one end from the bolt which is free to project under spring action into the steering column passage 6. The bolt is then locked by a head 15 of the spring biased member 17 engaging in a recess in the bolt frame 9. The bolt is released by turning the key in the cylinder to rotate a barrel 4 together with the cam 5 which displaces a follower 18 projecting from the member 17 from a recess on the cam and disengages the head 15 from the bolt recess. A shaft 11 projects from the cam to operate an ignition starter switch 13 the drum of which rotates with the shaft 11. In one modification, the locking member 17 is a spring-urged pin member which snaps behind a locking lug on the cam 5. In another modification the bolt supports a pivoted pawl which engages a step on an eccentric on the shaft to lock the bolt. |
