PURPOSE:To prevent a covering member from scattering at the time of inflating air bag by forming a first notch approximately parallel to long sides nearly in the middle of the covering member, and forming second notches along short sides at the positions at which the extensions of the first notch intersects the short sides on both side parts of an upper surface part. CONSTITUTION:A covering member 15 covering an air bag body 12 is firmly fixed to the end parts of a base plate 13, and formed into an approximately rectangular parallelepipedic box-like form whose lower part is open, by a nearly rectangular upper surface part 16 and side wall parts 17. In the middle part of the upper surface part 16 of the covering member 15, a first thin wall part 21 almost parallel to long sides on both side parts of the upper surface part 16 of the covering member 15, and second thin wall parts 23 are formed along short sides of both side parts on the upper surface part 16 of the covering member 15. In a part of the middle of the first thin wall part 21, a first notch part 31 is formed, and T-shaped second notch parts 33 are formed at the positions at which the first thin wall part 21 intersects the second thin wall parts 23. When a gas generator is operated, cracks are produced on the extensions of the first and second notch parts 31, 33 to rupture the covering member 15 quickly and reliably. |
