PURPOSE:To enhance contrast of an image and to stabilize a developing solution by processing a photosensitive material containing a specified redox compound with a specified developing solution. CONSTITUTION:This photographic sensitive material contains the redox compound (A) having as a redox group a hydrazine structure to be allowed to release a development inhibitor by reaction with the oxidation product of a developing agent, and at least one part of the development inhibitor is eluted into the developing solution and converted into a compound low in inhibiting performance. This photosensitive material is processed with a developing solution containing a developing agent and sulfite in a concentration of 0.1mol/l and having a pH of 9 - 12. A compound of formula I and the like can be used as the component A and it is preferred to add the component A and a second hydrazine compound to this photosensitive material, and further, to provide this photosensitive material with a layer containing the component A for controlling image formation and a silver halide emulsion layer for forming an image.
