The vice has a clamping (7) and a bearing jaw (6), with the clamping jaw exerting a downwards pressure on tightening. Resetting s springs at between the two aws. The clamping aws is swivellably mounted on a horizontal axis (8) in the top of the bearing jaw. The face of the clamping jaw facing the workpiece, has a clamping edge (9) or a narrow face, which is located below the horizontal plane through the swivel axis. A top clamping face (10), and a bottom clearance (11) extend from the plane. The resetting springs (12) are of tensile type to take up clamping forces.
