<p>1348247 Coated woven fabrics SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 1 June 1971 [2 June 1970] 26529/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division Dl] A process for the manufacture of a coated fabric, comprises (a) forming a weave from multicomponent thermoplastics tapes, each tape comprising a plurality of thermoplastics materials each of different melting temperature and each tape having a surface layer on one or both faces thereof of the thermoplastics material of lower or lowest melting temperature, said tapes being so woven that said surface layer material thereof is present on a face or faces of the weave and (b) coating the weave with said thermoplastics material of lower or lowest melting temperature so as to form a coated fabric having a coating of said thermoplastics material of lower or lowest melting temperature adhering to a face or faces of the weave, said coating being continuous with surface layer thermoplastics material of tapes comprised in said weave. A multicomponent thermoplastics tape is defined as being a tape comprising layers of at least two thermoplastics materials formed by laminating together the required number of preformed plies thereof, by the simultaneous extrusion on multi-layer form of at least two different thermoplastics materials or by the coating of one or both faces of pre-formed, film-thickness thermoplastics materials with one or different thermoplastics materials, the tapes being formed directly, or indirectly by first forming corresponding sheet-like products and then sub-dividing them into tapes. The thermoplastics material may be polypropylene, highdensity polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, a polyamide, a polyester, a poly acrylic, a vinyl resin or copolymers of the corresponding monomers, a preferred combination being polypropylene as the higher melting thermoplastics material and low-density polyethylene as the lowest melting thermoplastics material, the coating material being polyethylene which may be applied by extrusion coating.</p> |
